LESSON PLANS
LESSON 1: MONOHYBRID AND DIHYBRID CROSSES-
In this lesson students will learn how to predict the possible outcomes of various genetic combinations such as monohybrid crosses, dihybrid crosses and non-Mendelian inheritance. As well as, Use appropriate terminology related to genetic processes, including but not limited to: heterozygous, homozygous, dominant, recessive, genotype, phenotype, trait.
LESSON 2: KARYOTYPES, NON-MENDELIAN GENETICS
In this lesson, students will be able to distinguish between the two types of Non-Mendelian inheritance- codominance and incomplete dominance. Students will be able to identify gender and genetic abnormalities by analyzing a karyotype.
LESSON 3: CONTAMINATED WATER AND WATERBORNE DISEASES
Waterborne diseases are linked to a significant number of diseases affecting people worldwide. Waterborne diarrheal diseases, for example, are responsible for 2 million deaths each year, with the majority occurring in children under 5. According to the World Health Organization, contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to the transmission of many diseases.
LESSON 4: EVOLUTION
In this lesson, students will develop an understanding of how fossils can provide evidence for evolutionary relationships.
LESSON 5: DICHOTOMOUS KEYS/CLASSIFICATION
In this lesson, students will be able to recognize that living things can be separated into distinct kingdoms based on classification of traits.
LESSON 6: EVOLUTION CONTINUED/ INTRO TO VIRUSES
In this lesson, students will be completing their Unit 8 on Evolution. My Grade Level classes will be completing an interactive activity on Dichotomous Keys to ensure understanding on that topic. My Pre-Ap students will be starting Unit 9 on Viruses this week as well.
